Foster Hope
Imagine being a child and having to move out of your home in the middle of the night with little or nothing of your own to take with you. Here's how Foster Hope helps children in this situation and how we helped Foster Hope in 2014.
Foster Hope Northland received $5000 as a grant from the Northland Community Foundation through the Tindall Foundation in 2014.
Debbie Sutcliffe of Foster North told us that the money would be used to buy backpacks and carry alls which will then be filled with everything a child might need if they are suddenly uplifted to move elsewhere into care. Each bad is packed with age and gender appropriate items including toothpaste, toothbrush, pyjamas, soft toys, book, body wash, shampoo, face cloth, undies, torch, hairbrush, deodorant and other sundry items that are either donated or bought in bulk.
Debbie says that some children have never had brand new pyjamas or in some cases not even a new toothbrush. She said that the joy they experience when they get their backpack goes some way to counteract the distress caused by the upheaval of moving suddenly.
Foster Hope does just that. Gives little ones their own wee pack of hope in the middle of moving into foster care.
